Danny Amos in international action...

It's not often Doncaster Rovers are blessed with 'current' internationals so it was something different to be able to watch Danny Amos in action for Northern Ireland's Under 21s tonight.

Making what I believe to be his second international appearance, the 20-year-old claimed an assist and played the full 90 minutes as his team won 2-0 in Malta with both goals coming in quick succession, either side of the hour mark.

The Rovers youngster, operating at left-back, was instrumental in the opener - doing his best 'Mr Whippy' impersonation with a delicious left-wing cross from tight to the byline which was tucked away by Ross Larkin at the second attempt after the initial header came back off the post.

David Parkhouse, who earlier in the game had seen his spot-kick saved on the stroke of half-time, was then on hand to tap home Northern Ireland's second goal on the rebound soon afterwards following a move where Ali McCann latched onto a clever pass over the top from Jake Dunwoody and went on a strong run before his powerful shot was spilled by the Maltese 'keeper.

Thereafter, at 2-0, the Irish lads seemed to be composed and professional enough in 'getting the job done' with Amos' main contribution in the final 20 minutes being when he made a crucial interception to foil the hosts at the expense of a corner.

I can't comment on anything which happened in the opening half-hour of the game (purely because I couldn't find a reliable stream to watch it), but from what I saw Danny produced a decent enough individual display, delivered some good balls into good areas - including one not long into the second period when the frontman narrowly ventured into an offside position.

The clean-sheet is testament to the lads' efforts though next up for them will be a far-sterner test when they face Denmark (the current leaders in their European Under 21s Championship Qualifying Group) in Ballymena on Tuesday (5.00pm).

There's every possibility that the game will be live on this link if anyone reads this post and wants to watch the action as it happens.

Good luck, Dan.
