Tynecastle 1-1 Turriff United
Pre-Season Friendly
Saturday 22nd July 2023
Another afternoon in Scotland; this time spent at Meggetland Stadium - home of Tynecastle F.C. (based just a few miles down the road from Edinburgh's West End) who currently play in the East Of Scotland Premier Division.
Their opponents for this game were Turriff United, who I happened to 'drop on' both times when I went to a Highland League game last season - and on both occasions they were beaten; firstly at Brora Rangers in July, then at Inverurie Locos in March.
This time around they came from behind to earn a draw which was a pretty fair reflection of the game as it was a pretty closely-fought affair.
Tynecastle took the lead after just two minutes when the famous a trialist (according to Tynecastle's Twitter feed) or Mackenzie Scott (according to Turriff's Twitter feed) got on the end of a cross to convert, and although they clipped the bar from a free-kick just past the half-hour mark, the away team equalised just before half-time when Neil Gauld got the ball inside the box, span, and looped an effort over the 'keeper.
The second half was very even; perhaps shaded ever so slightly by the Highlanders.
Tynecastle nearly went ahead again just after the re-start when a deflected effort clipped the post before Turriff went up the other end and forced the home 'keeper into a decent low save. They then had the ball in the net during the latter stages but it was ruled out for offside and, ultimately, there were no further goals.
A nice stadium; very similar to Curzon Ashton in England and it's a brilliant little set-up which Tynecastle have - and even though this was a pre-season friendly during the height of British summertime, it was still quite cold in the second half so the heated canteen where you can get a glimpse of the pitch (see the photos) came in handy.
Enjoy the photos!
