Yoker Athletic 0-1 Hamilton Accies U20s
Pre-Season Friendly
Monday 24th July 2023
Some Monday night football and just the one goal in this game as an Hamilton Accies team proved too strong for Yoker Athletic on the 4G at Holm Park.
The decisive moment came just after the half-hour mark - at the point where the Accies were beginning to come on strong.
The No.3 (now found out to be Chrissy McGinn) who was decent throughout; aggressive, clever in his movement and made a good impression, linked-up well in a nice move that was all about keeping the ball on the deck, got high and tight to the byline and squared a low cross for Liam Morgan to fire home from just a few yards.
And the best thing about it? It silenced the kids with the megaphone - for a couple of minutes anyway!
Morgan was actually unlucky to end the night with just one goal to his name because in the second half he hit the post, also smashed an effort against the crossbar and posed a constant threat to Yoker’s defence.
Going close again with a long shot from distance which the Yoker ‘keeper turned wide in the most unorthodox of fashions, the visitors best chance actually came from the penalty spot but the No.9 (I think) saw his attempt palmed away by the ‘keeper.
A bigger scoreline of up to 3-0 (at a push) wouldn’t have flattered Hamilton; albeit Yoker did squander one decent chance to equalise as one of their big men connected to an in-swinging corner midway through the second half and headed narrowly wide of the post. Plus they kept pushing right until the end which meant Hamilton had to defend another set-piece in the very last action of the game too.
Overall, a decent night out. Good also to catch up with Dylan Tait who was watching on from the terraces and is a player I’ve rated highly ever since seeing him dominate this game for Raith at Forfar when he was just 18. Here’s hoping you can have a top season at Hamilton, get another promotion on your CV, rack up the appearances and add more value to your name with what I already know you can do on a football pitch.
Next up (tonight) is a trip to the ‘Sagrada Familia’ of Scottish Football… Lesser Hampden! Who knows how long they’ll take to build the next stand once Queen’s Park vacate the place again in a few weeks!
